EQUITHONTM

UPDATE TO DATE
RIDING FOR CHARITY

WELCOME to the EQUITHON section of the Cheshire Endurance web site.

In 2009 the Cheshire Group of Endurance GB organised the UK’s first ever charity fund raising marathon challenge on horseback – the EQUITHON. Course distances included the full marathon distance at ~26.5 miles; the half marathon distance at ~13.3 miles and a mini marathon distance of ~2.6 miles. The course utilised part of the Eaton Estate, land of Grosvenor Farms, private land and local bridleways of the Bishop Bennet Way – fabulous riding!!

Following the success of this first event, the Equithon was again organised in 2010.

As well as introducing riders to the joys of endurance riding through this unique challenge, the principle objective of these two events has been to raise additional funds for select national and north-west based charities. Whilst appreciating that money was tighter for everyone as the country headed into recession - the impact was really hitting charity organisations. This was our way of helping.

Both events were very generously hosted by the Eaton Estate, located just south of Chester and with the express permission from their Graces, the Duke and Duchess of Westminster.
Being the private residence of their Graces, the gates to the gardens of the Eaton Estate are only opened 3 times a year to the public....to have gained express permission to ride through the beautiful Estate grounds and part of the deer park for this event has been a huge privilege.

From the 2 events a staggering £14,500 has been raised through sponsorship by the riders for the following charity organisations:
